Are blogs good for writers?

I am a writer, and I am wondering whether blogs are good for writers. I want to discuss writing techniques with other writers, but my only fear is that people may steal my ideas. I wish to use blogging for writing tips and networking. Thanks for your time!

Are blogs good for writers?
If you want to use your blog for writing tips and networking, then there's no real reason to post your ideas, is there?

That said, ideas are a dime a dozen. None of them are original anymore. What matters is that you can find a fresh twist and a fresh voice. You have to write about that idea in a different way than anyone has before you.

Lots of writers have blogs. Don't post things that you are looking to submit for publication, but otherwise they can be a great tool and a lot of fun!

Here's one of my favorite ones that I think all writers should read:

Reply:A blog is a diary. If you are worried about your ideas getting stolen, you'd better keep it to yourself. If you want to discuss general writing, there are many fora and discussion boards available.

If you think you want to gain exposure using a blog, you can start one, but it better be something good that catches others' attention. There are many good blogs of different varieties - its kind of saturated. I would suggest you search for good blogs first to get an idea.
Reply:yes, i guess they are good.
Reply:Yes! They Are! Orson Scott Card does just that. He has a website and blog where he discusses writing with his online audience. Holly Lisle also has a website with forum to discuss writing. If at all else..you can use it for your own exposure and for people to know who you are. I'd say go for it. Hope this helps. Send me link when its up. I'm a writer too.

Reply:I would , even if there's a chance that someone else may steal your ideas. It's always good to get your work out there and to be able to receive comments, feedback, and critique from like-minded people.
